Time is running out to order Christmas gifts for the snow-hound in your life. If your snow-hound is also a gear-hound your job of buying a suitable gift is nearly impossible: Piste Maps to the rescue!

I’ve recently come across a couple of companies selling wall art featuring popular piste maps. They also do vintage ski posters and other snow related art; who can resist?

Gnarwalls has teamed up with several North American ski resorts to produce ski art. As print shop owners who live in the mountains of Utah, the team know a thing or two about quality reproduction and print piste maps on either wood or canvas or supply them as decals. The size depends upon the resort but all will make a good impact in any sitting room. They also offer to print custom sizes and can create a print of any other ski resort you can find a map of.

Frozen Underground take an alternative view of mainly European alpine landscapes and convert them into Tube style maps. They have completed the main countries of Europe together with a few of the larger linked ski resorts. They also offer to customise maps by adding your favourite accommodation, bars and restaurants to their maps.

Splash Maps have an alternative approach, their maps aren’t art, but are for taking outdoors; however they also do shower curtains! They print hiking, biking and tourist maps on to waterproof fabric for stuffing in your pocket. Allowing you to be GPS and paper free for whatever adventure you are embarking on. They have recently started to expand their collection by doing piste maps like the Three Valleys; watch this space…

Note: None of these companies have commissioned me nor paid me to write this article I just think they are really cool gifts. Of course, if they were to see this and add me to their list of people to send a Christmas present to; I wouldn’t object!
