In Uzbekistan, near Tashkent, they are building a world-class mountain and ski resort from scratch!

Work on creating the ski resort of Amirsoy has begun and the first phase of it will be open for the 2018-19 season. The full programme of works is due for completion in 2022.

According to the Amirsoy website: The resort will be 900 beautiful and picturesque hectares on the northern slopes of the Maigashkan mountain.

When complete there will be 7 lifts serving 28 pistes with a total length of 21.3 km. Part of the resort will be floodlit to allow night skiing and there will be sledding and tubing tracks. The pistes will have snow cannon to assure high quality snow conditions.

pop trivia: 1963 saw the second outing of ‘James Bond (Sean Connery)’ in ‘From Russia with Love’. The theme tune by the same name was sung by ‘Matt Munro’. Uzbekistan was part of the Soviet Socialist Republic until it gained independence in 1991: I’m not certain the granting of independence of Uzbekistan by Russia was ‘with love’!
