Last season, Arapahoe Basin opened up 34 new runs in over 468 acres of new ski terrain. Being Black Friday, and, as usual, being more interested in black runs than shopping, let’s take a look at one of the two new areas; ‘The Steep Gullies’.

The new ski area started to welcome skiers from last November, so it’s had a whole year to be explored and for powder hounds to upload their YouTube videos. Here is one of the first.

The Steep Gullies.

The Steep Gullies is an area covering 129 acres and is the most challenging skiing at Arapahoe Basin. The steep, narrow chutes vary in pitch and width. They are graded as ‘extreme’ (double-black diamond). All terrain in The Steep Gullies is ‘hike back’, this means that you are going to have to walk or skin back to the bottom of the new Pallavicini Lift when you have finished your run. This will take 20 to 30 minutes. Take a look at all the piste maps for The Arapahoe Basin to whet your appetite.

pop trivia: ‘Xanadu’ is sung by ‘Olivia Newton-John’ with back-up vocals and music by ‘Jeff Lynn’ and the ‘Electric Light Orchestra’. It is the lead single and title track from the Album and Film, also staring ‘Olivia Newton-John’, from 1980.
